Soviet Heritage in Lithuania: Cultural Tourism Innovation and the Lifeline for Post-Industrial Region

ABSTRACT. The essence of Lithuanian tourism has always dealt with historical and cultural heritage created up to the middle of 20'h century. To ensure survival in global competition, there is required to find something new though that considered the heritage of Soviet Lithuania. Authors revealed the perspectives of Lithuanian heritage of the Soviet in the industry of cultural tourism. Lithuania has not carried out detailed studies of the Soviet heritage. This implies the preservation of buildings and a new approach to their development. In model of cultural heritage management, the most important element is the heritage representation to the public. The main goal is to provide sustainably cultural heritage, to be transmitted to future generations and get commercial benefit. But Lithuania does not have yet clear position in what form should tourism and creative industries be developed. It may be assumed that there is lack of information regarding the direction which should be taken for developing these activities.
