ABSTRACT. Rewards used in attracting and retaining students at work are a subject of interest for organizations in Romania considering the high levels of unemployment and employee turnover in this workforce segment. Our research is focused on identifying the preferences of talented young employees considering rewards that may contribute to attracting and retaining talented young employees to companies. Using a questionnaire-based survey applied on master and PhD students, the paper revealed that they are attracted by mixed offers, meaning fixed salaries, performance-based variable salaries, and personal development (career, training, evaluation). Our study is useful for researchers in the field of human resource management and for managers that design appropriate reward policies in order to attract and retain students in their pipeline of young talents.
