Katarzyna Jasinska, Bartosz Jasinski

ABSTRACT. Within the realities of the knowledge-based economy, the importance of implementing innovative projects that use modern technologies is increasing. Clusters are a natural answer to this demand. The purpose of this article is to characterize the importance of clusters under Industry 4.0 conditions. The objective pursued in the article fits into the trend of seeking opportunities to support the innovativeness of enterprises and the economy through the use of various forms of cooperation. The concept of clusters is adopted as the main point of interest, which, firstly, fit into the new economic conditions, and are able to create innovations while maintaining the ability to independently exist on the market by generating income. The article defines the concept of Industry 4.0 and discusses the main assumptions associated with the distinct form of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Then the concept of the cluster and its evolution is presented, as well as the characteristics of clusters that determine their role in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. A modified form of the Porter"s diamond is also proposed for analysis. The theoretical considerations are supplemented in each instance with case study analysis - the concept of Industry 4.0 cluster in Poland.
