TRENDS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE - A CASE STUDY IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC
Hana Mohelska, Marcela Sokolova

ABSTRACT. The present study examines the organizational culture at organizations in the Czech Republic. The primary objective is to design and test in practice a suitable tool to measure the strength of organizational culture. In connection with the objectives of this paper, the following research question was formulated: "What is the organizational culture at organizations in the Czech Republic, and are there any significant differences in the evaluation of organizational culture that depend on the gender or age of the respondents?" To determine the organizational culture at organizations in the Czech Republic, an extensive study (approximately 1,500 respondents) was carried out twice, in 2013 and 2015, in the form of a questionnaire survey - the Czech translation of Wallach's questionnaire (1983). Ellen J. Wallach has divided organizational cultures into three dimensions - bureaucratic, supportive and innovative.
According to the findings, the respondents understand and perceive the culture at organizations as rather bureaucratic and supportive. From their perspective, the characteristics of an innovative culture are not so noticeable. Based on the findings, we can conclude that gender differences did not prove to be significant for the individual dimensions of organizational cultures. By contrast, for most formulated hypotheses, age differences are significant for all three variables describing the given culture.
