SME DEBT FINANCING GAP: THE CASE OF POLAND
Lieven De Moor, Monika Wieczorek-Kosmala, Joanna Blach

ABSTRACT. Grounded on the literature review on SME debt finance and the transition of the Polish SME sector, the paper executes a dynamic comparative analysis between the SME sector in Poland versus the EU with respect to the economic and finance structure, and the access to debt finance. Based on the authors' assessment of the EC/ECB surveys of 2011 and 2013, it was found that the SME debt finance gap in Poland is decreasing in contrast to the EU, and that the Polish SMEs have better access to debt finance. This result is relevant for the evaluation of the current and future support measures of the Polish and EU government for stimulating and attracting domestic and foreign investments .
