MIGRATION TRENDS IN LITHUANIA AND OTHER NEW EU MEMBER STATES

ABSTRACT. The article deals with the emigration trends in Lithuania, compares these trends with the other new EU member states and defines the main reasons of high emigration rates in Lithuania based on the survey conducted in Lithuania. The paper presents an overview of the main migration theories, analyses and compares migration trends and people considerations to seek jobs in other EU member states in Lithuania and new EU member states. Referring to the survey conducted in Lithuanian in 2013, the article presents the demographic profile of persons considering emigration, the main reasons of emigration and the most important measures to prevent emigration from Lithuania identified by the respondents of survey.
