DETERMINANTS OF THE INTERNAL STRUCTURE OF THE ENTERPRISE SECTOR - CASE OF SLOVAKIA
Marek Kunasz

ABSTRACT. The paper is of theoretical-empirical character. The paper aims to provide a comparative analysis of the internal structure of the enterprise sector in Slovakia, with reference to respective structure measures in the countries of the Middle East Europe. The internal structure of the enterprise sector in Slovakia is specific. It is formed by a considerably smaller percentage of microenterprises than in other countries of the European Union. Within the applied scope data for Slovakia referred to the level of average measures for the group of countries from the Middle East Europe which had undergone system transformation and are members of the European Union. Data which reflect the internal structure of the enterprise sector taking into consideration 3 basic criteria reflecting significance of the group of enterprises (number of enterprises, generated added value and number of employees) were analysed. The derivative measures (work productivity, average employment) were also analysed. The analyses were conducted from the general point of view and also included divisions into macro-sectors and sectors. Empirical studies indicate that Slovakia can be characterised by much higher strength of large subjects especially in the industry branches, or these in which a company is highly employed (the case of shipping enterprises). Therefore, the research hypothesis is proved. In case of Slovak a mediocre role is not played by a relatively higher rate of employment in an average company.
