The Determinants of Sustainable Development of Agriculture Sector in Poland
Anna Bartkowiak, Piotr Bartkowiak

ABSTRACT. The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) operates in the field of ecologization of agricultural sector, what is reflected in realization of the sustainable development concept. For this reason, elements of the sustainable development have been discussed. Special attention has been given to activities concerning the European Union strategy on the protection and welfare of animals. The problem is highly significant because of the fact that the common European Union policy does not include many questions of animal welfare, such as variety of systems for agricultural production, climate conditions or others. One of the main mechanisms of the CAP is cross-compliance. It was found that the principles of cross-compliance are closely related and are important in the implementation of measures for the sustainable development of agriculture.

These requirements should be met by beneficiaries in order to obtain financial aid for production, for maximal reduction of a negative impact of agricultural activities on the environment and the health safety of humans and animals, animal welfare and food security.

The study is aimed at an interview of actions for the sustainable development of agriculture with a special reference to animal production.

KEYWORDS: sustainable development of agriculture, determinants of sustainable development, animal welfare, cross-compliance.
