Cyclical Fluctuations of Business Activity in the New EU Countries

ABSTRACT. The paper discusses business cycles in the ‘new’ EU member states (Baltic and Visegrad countries) by analysing gross value added and manufacturing production and BTS data: the economic sentiment indicator and the industrial confidence indicator. By studying main morphological features of cyclical fluctuations: minimum, maximum and mean values, turning points, duration, magnitude and intensity of successive phases, we draw some conclusions about synchronisation of business cycles between the ‘new’ and the ‘old’ EU countries.
