Role of the Foresight Projects in the Research on Competences for the Future

ABSTRACT. The aim of the research discussed in the article is to demonstrate the applicability of the foresight process to determine the needs for new competences. The study was conducted by a mixed team of researchers and practitioners (of which the author was a member). The first survey in Poland staffing needs of the modern economy was combined with the results of the National Foresight Program: Poland 2020, in order to establish whether the selected priorities of Polish development are compatible with our staffing needs. Only some of the methods of the extensive process of foresight were used that were adequate in their scope and suited the objective of the research. On the basis of the study, a social discussion was launched that was to answer the question, whether Poland has chance to base its development on personnel.
